Operation Smile's 5th Annual Park City Celebrity Ski & Smile Challenge Presented By The Rodosky Family Raises Over $535,00

Operation Smile's 5th Annual Park City Celebrity Ski & Smile Challenge Presented By The Rodosky Family Raises Over $535,00

Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending the Park City Celebrity Ski Challenge with my two sons Luke & Griffin.  It was a wonderful weekend full of love and smiles hosted by event chair NBC Entertainment President Jen Salke & her beautiful family. Jen and I have met before through Operation Smile, but this weekend in Park City was a wonderful chance for our two families to get to know each other better.  I also had the opportunity to meet and speak with Kim Rodosky, and her family, who I have also heard so much about.  Flying in to spend the weekend with us was my co-producer and director, Jen Greenstreet, who I am working with on the upcoming short film Facial Anomalies -- Just Like You films.  More on that later...

Hollywood stars who came out to support the weekend,  included Taylor Kinney, Julianne Hough, Evan Ross,Brooke Burke-Charvet, David Charvet, Julie Bowen, Kate Walsh, Lance Bass, Michael Trevino, Ben Feldman and Matt Iseman.  They had a lot of fun when they went head to head with Olympic skiers on the slopes at Utah Olympic Park on March 12, 2015, in several dual ski races to support Operation Smile, while being cheered on by Retta, Jennifer Coolidge, Adam Shankman and Alex Borstein.

Lady Gaga with the boys

After a day of friendly competition, Iseman, Kinney, and Ross took home championship medals presented to them by  Kate Upton and the always entertaining, Smile Ambassador Whitney Cummings, during a VIP Dinner at Tupelo Restaurant.  Lady Gaga joined fiancé Kinney for the second year in a row, to support his efforts to raise awareness for Operation Smile.

At the evening event, Junior Event Chair Henry Salke, who was born with a cleft lip, gave a wonderful speech about why helping children less fortunate then him meant so much, followed by a speech by his twin sisters who spoke passionately about their own medical mission experiences.

Brooke Burke-Charvet and David Charvet, who have also been generous supporters for several years, talked about their recent Mexico mission experience with their children and what it meant to experience giving back for their family.  One aspect of being an Operation Smile supporter that most people often speak about is not just what giving to others does for them, but what Operation Smile has given back to them and their family. Operation Smile is a tight knit group of kind and giving people shepherded by Dr. Bill & Kathy Magee who inspire the best in everyone.

A highlight of the weekend for our family was seeing the love and support given by all of the attendees, and our beautiful Zachary, Luke & Griffin bears distributed to everyone who donated that night.  It is still such a wonderful moment to see how our Three Little Bears have crossed the world helping children and inspiring others to give.  Lady Gaga & Taylor were not only generous, but gracious in their support to the entire Operation Smile family.  It was wonderful for me to personally thank them both for all of the added awareness they have given to our bears and Operation Smile.

10 Fun Facts about St. Barths

10 Fun Facts about St. Barths

In honor of our new theme -- Welcome to St. Barts -  we wanted to share some interesting facts about St. Barths and its rich history.

1.The flag of St. Barths (besides the French flag colors) is composed of the Lily flower – a reminder that it belongs to France, the Maltese cross – referring to possession by the Order of Malta, the crown – symbolism of the Swedish period, and lastly the Pelican as their emblem (the Pelican which is also on the St. Martin flag, means that you would want to fly from one island to another to discover new treasures.)

2. The biodiversity of St. Barth's and the surrounding islands have: 183 different species of fish, 54 varieties of coral, and 60 types of sea sponges.

3. St. Barths was originally called “Ouanalao” by the Arawaks (original island inhabitants) in 1493. Columbus discovered St. Barths and named the island after his brother, Bartolomeo.

4. The island was discovered in 1493 by Christopher Columbus who named it for his brother Bartolomeo. St. Barthelemy was first settled by the French in 1648. In 1784, the French sold the island to Sweden, who renamed the largest town Gustavia, after the Swedish King GUSTAV III, and made it a free port; the island prospered as a trade and supply center during the colonial wars of the 18th century. France repurchased the island in 1878 and placed it under the administration of Guadeloupe. St. Barthelemy retained its free port status along with various Swedish appellations such as Swedish street and town names, and the three-crown symbol on the coat of arms.  In 2003, the populace of the island voted to secede from Guadeloupe and in 2007, the island became a French overseas collectivity.

5. French is the official language, but English is widely spoken.

6. Despite limited rain in St. Barths, there is still plenty of vegetation. The west coast is drier with shrubs and cacti, the East coast is greener with more tropical vegetation like floral species which adorn the landscape.

7. Tourism took hold in St. Barths when Rémy de Haenen, an eccentric Dutch aviator, landed his plane at what is now the airport. He later became the first hotelier and the island's mayor.

8. The island gets more than 300 sunny days a year on average.

9. The glamorous island of St Barts is one of the Caribbean's top beach destinations. Ringing the island are immaculate strips of sand and ethereal turquoise waters. The shallow reefs that encircle the island help to protect these renowned beaches, and they also provide excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities.

10. This volcanic island without any rivers forced the population to adapt to its rigors in order to here live comfortably. Fresh water in St Barts comes from a desalination plant or large cisterns built into villas and hotels to collect rainwater. Thus water is a valuable resource to be used carefully.

The Perfect Watermelon Salad

The Perfect Watermelon Salad

Nothing says summer quite like watermelon and, here at the Perfect P, we have watermelon on the brain!  Our newest kid tee will be a sweet watermelon color and available soon, but until then, we wanted to share this delicious salad that is perfect for summer.  I absolutely love fruit in salad and I think it really brings delicious color, texture and taste.   Remember to choose organic veggies and fruit whenever possible, this recipe is easy to make and easy to eat.

Refreshing Watermelon Salad

The Goods:

1/4 large organic watermelon cut into 1 inch cubes

1 organic cucumber, peeled, halfed and sliced

1 medium organic red onion, sliced in half, sliced thinly

1 quarter cup cashews or candied pecans

1 bunch of fresh chopped mint

Combine the first four 'goods' (ok it's just a clever way to say ingredients) in a large wood bowl and sprinkle the mint on top.  Pour dressing over the salad right before serving. Inside tip -- my Italian father loved making our salad dressing every night and he was a big believer in never soaking your salad with dressing before you were ready to serve it.

For Dressing:

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

1/8 cup red wine or balsamic vinegar (depends upon personal taste)

salt and pepper to taste

1 dash of organic worcestershire sauce

Mangia bene!

Perfect Champagne Cocktails

July 4th weekend is here and it's time to celebrate!  These two festive and fun sparkling cocktails are a perfect way to sparkle up any bbq or picnic.

Either champagne or sparkling wine is refreshing but if you haven't tried a lot of sparkling wines you are missing out and should give it a try!  For sparkling wine, i love Gloria Ferrer Brut from Sonoma, I had my wedding reception there and it is a delicious wine.  I also love Roederer Estate Brut, from the Anderson Valley, it is crisp, and refreshing and a lovely wine.   Cheers!

#smilemore, summer & the perfect tee

#smilemore, summer & the perfect tee

Hello Summer!!  Here on the East Coast, we are absolutely thrilled with the start of summer weather after such a harsh winter; seeing our flowers bloom, our brown grass turn green, and experiencing the joy of feeling the sunshine on our face, is such a blessing.  My peonies are just beginning to bloom, and they are one of my all time favorite flowers.  They smell and look gorgeous.  I've stepped up my running game again, now that the weather is warm (no excuses!), and cut back on all those winter sweets I had been indulging in.  Time for getting back to a whole food health and life. Summer, maybe even more than a new year for me, is about realigning, refocusing and getting back to basics. With that in mind, we have two special treats that say summer to me when you order your Perfect Provenance products -- you will receive one of them as a gift when you order this summer.  We won't ruin the surprise, you will just have to wait and order and see!

The Broadway Boys at the Smile Gala in NYC performing in our Smile collection tees.

We are loving all of our friends and family who have posting their pics of #smilemore tees to social media, and love the idea of this going viral. Thank you and please continue to help us spread the love!  From Florida to California and back to Connecticut, we smile every time we see these photos.

In addition to previewing our new collection of #smilemore tees to benefit Operation Smile, launching the website and getting up and running, we have been very busy here at the Perfect P developing our new product lines.  I cannot wait until you see. smell and experience our new products.  These last few weeks I have been sketching and designing our jewelry, which I would describe as modern, chic and edgy, all wrapped in one!  I am collaborating on the design with a jeweler I have adored for years -- Zig Zag Jewelers on Madison Avenue. Our designs together are based on principles I believe in and love  -- balance, architecture and beauty. Each design will be our own special, delicate creation and really represent the look and feel.,materials and aesthetic, I want our company to symbolize.

Our home fragrance line of candles samples also arrived this week. We now test their 'burn' which means we are burning the candle in our home, and living with it to make sure it is just right.  We have spent weeks smelling oils and 'mods' (modifications) with our perfumery partner Symrise (a former PR client of mine) that represent different ideas that I have had in my mind for years.  The fragrance concepts represent different memories, ideas in my life that speak to me and I hope speak to you.  Sensory ideas that evoke peace, happiness, nature, and more.  Years and years ago, I wanted to open a candle store because I have always loved how scent can transform a mood and a room.  I have spent much of my career working in the fragrance business. and it is true luxury to bring these ideas to life now with my extremely creative friends in perfumery.

I'm off to enjoy this beautiful weekend.  Hope yours is safe, happyand healthy.

#smilemore
xoxo lisa
